A team of junior and senior students embarked on a remarkable pilgrimage to Armenia, a journey that allowed the students to immerse themselves in Armenia’s vibrant culture, history, and breathtaking sites. The collaboration between the Armenian Mesrobian School and Levon Travel created a truly unforgettable adventure.

Yerevan
After a warm welcome at Zvartnots airport, the Armenian Macrobian School toured Yerevan. The highlights of the first days included visits to Matenadaran, the Armenian Genocide Memorial, and the Mother Armenia statue.
Of course, a group paid their respects to the warriors at the Yerablur Military Pantheon in Yerevan and visited Sardarabad Monument on May 28, the day that Armenia celebrates as the First Republic Day.
Khor Virap and Noravank
The next stop was Armenia’s Vayots Dzor and Ararat provinces where the students visited Khor Virap and Noravank Monastery.
Khor Virap
Khor Virap translates to “deep well” in Armenian. It is here that Saint Gregory the Illuminator, the patron saint of Armenia, was imprisoned for 13 years before being released and successfully spreading Christianity throughout the country. In addition, one can enjoy the breathtaking view of Mount Ararat which is only several kilometers away. This vantage point offers visitors an opportunity to reflect on the significant role of Khor Virap in Armenia’s Christian history while taking in the awe-inspiring natural beauty of the surrounding landscape.
Noravank
Noravank Monastery showcases the exceptional architectural skills of medieval Armenia. It is a masterpiece of religious and cultural heritage.
The stunning Surb Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God) Church is a gem that seems to blend harmoniously with the surrounding red cliffs. Beyond the architectural marvels, Noravank offers visitors a chance to delve into the spirituality and tranquility of the surroundings. In addition, a serene atmosphere creates a unique atmosphere that will stay in your memory forever.
Sevan and Dilijan
The traditional visit to Lake Sevan or what they call Armenia’s “Blue Pearl” and Sevanavank Monastery was among the highlights of the journey.
The next stop of a pilgrimage to Armenia was Dilijan where the students toured Lake Parz and Dilijan Community Center.
Oshakan and Hovhannes Toumanian House Museum
The students could not but visit the remarkable sites that celebrate Armenia’s literary heritage and cultural richness.
Oshakan village is the final resting place of Mesrop Mashtots, a scholar who invented the Armenian alphabet in 405. Meanwhile, a visit to Hovhannes Tumanian House Museum in Dsegh village of Lori province offers an immersive experience, inviting visitors to step into the world of the most famous Armenian poet.
Garni Temple and Geghard Monastery
It’s hardly possible to imagine a tour of Armenia without a visit to the only standing Hellenistic temple in the Caucasus. Just as Garni, the Geghard Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, captivated the group with its unique beauty and tranquil atmosphere within its sacred walls.
